About the book
Rebel With a Cause is the story of how a teenage apprentice hairdresser from Fulham worked his way up from tea boy to head one of the UK’s biggest and most successful record labels, Island Records, signing and nurturing some of the greatest artists of the twenty-first century.
About Darcus Beese
Darcus Beese OBE spent thirty years working at Island Records where he became the first black CEO of a UK record company when he was made president of Island Records UK.
Darcus is an executive vice-president of Warner Music UK and runs his own Darco label. He is regarded as one of the greatest A&Rs of his generation, signing and nurturing the likes of Amy Winehouse, Dizzee Rascal, Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, Taio Cruz and Jessie J.
About Duro Oya
Duro Oye is the CEO and founder of the multi award winning, 20/20 Levels charity. As CEO of 20/20 Levels his focus is on ensuring that the business model adapts to the growth and expansion of the charity.
Duro also serves as an active contributor to various boards such as: Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Charity People; DEI Impact Champion at The Conduit London; Chair at The Athlete’s Foot EMEA Impact Council; trustee for Acumen Academy and Ambassador for the Home Grown Club. Since receiving his diploma from London Met film school in Documentary Filmmaking. He has gone on to producing impactful documentaries such as: ‘247365 Change’, County lines: Teenage Drug Runner’s; in collaboration with the BBC, and ‘Gangland Season 1 & 2 with Channel 5.
